Ellusionist released two products named Tagged on the same day in December 2008. We offer this comparison chart to help you distinguish between them.
|What it is||A method for making a card appear to appear on a dog tag chain.||A method for making text appear to appear on a spectator.|
|Rating||Five threaded pasteboards.||Five stealthy words.|
|Effect||A spectator's chosen card jumps from the deck and is magically threaded on a dog tag chain around the magician's neck. There are no breaks in the chain, and no slits or tears in the magician's neck.||Any text — from the name of a chosen card to a thought-of word to the Magna Carta — instantly appears on a spectator's skin, written in dark black indelible ink.|
|Easy method||The chosen card already has a chain through it and the magician uses misdirection to prevent spectators from noticing that there is a chain leading from the magician's neck to the deck of cards. A yank of the deck pulls out the selected card and leaves it dangling from the chain.||The spectator is secretly replaced with a pre-marked spectator (available for purchase from the manufacturer).|
|Expert method||A small slide projector is hidden in the magician's hand and used to project the image of a card onto the magician's shirt, right at the bottom of the dog tag. By standing absolutely still, the magician makes it appear as if the card is fixed in place. When the magician turns around (for modesty's sake) to take off the dog tag, the real chosen card is secretly threaded onto the chain so it can be inspected.||A small slide projector is hidden in the magician's hand and used to project the text onto the spectator's skin. By matching the spectator's movements, the magician makes it appear as if the text is fixed in place. When the effect is over, the magician uses a sharpie to "darken the letters a bit," making the writing permanent so it can be inspected.|
|Advantages||Dog tag can be thoroughly inspected and taken home as a souvenir.||Spectator can be thoroughly inspected and taken home as a souvenir.|
|Drawbacks||Cards with chains through them can be used only in casual, low-stakes games of poker.||Ineffectual on illiterate spectators.|
|Other uses||Magically turn a picture of your child into an inexpensive necklace with a picture of your child.||Instantly print a grocery list on your spouse.|
|Effect when combined with other Tagged||Instantly impale a spectator on a chain.||Magically change the text on your dog tag.|
|Warning||Not to be performed using a dog tag that's on an actual dog.||Making naughty words appear on your boss may lead to sudden explosive termination.|
Note: As a cost-saving measure, all future Ellusionist products will also be named "Tagged."
